Our Veterinary Nurse Weight Clinics
At Dragon Vets our Veterinary nurse weight clinics are to help you keep your pets healthy and at the right weight. These clinics can help prevent further problems associated with excess weight.
Why our Veterinary Nurse Weight Clinics are important for your pets?
When it comes to our pets’ weight, both dogs and cats should be well proportioned. You should not be able to see the ribs, but you should be able to feel them easily.
When looking down on the waist it should be obvious to see, on the side view there should be an evident abdominal tuck in front of the back legs.
Other things to look out for, is their collar tight? Do they have difficulty walking, are they walking slower or sleeping a lot more than normal? Are they suffering from shortness of breath during exercise? These can be all signs your pet is overweight and there could also be other underlying issues.

Keeping your pet’s ideal weight
Below are a few tips to help you keep your pet at its ideal weight.
- Ensure you accurately measure your pet’s food.
- Try to avoid giving them human food.
- If they are overweight, use a special diet pet food and treats that contain fewer calories.
- Make sure your pet gets plenty of exercises.
Are you struggling to keep your pet’s weight?
If you are having issues keeping your pet’s weight, our veterinary nurse clinics are here to help.
Weight loss programmes can be tailor-made to meet both your requirements and those of your pet. With a controlled diet and calorie intake, along with the right level or exercise, we can help your pet achieve the right weight and maintain it.
Generally, the duration of weight loss plans can vary between 3 months to a year. However, with newer developments from food manufacturers, we can offer prescription food plans to help your pet achieve a more significant weight loss, whilst ensuring they get the right nutrition.
Furthermore, if you have any concerns regarding your pet’s weight, please come along to our veterinary nurse weight clinics, where our qualified staff will be happy to chat with you in confidence.
For your information, if you are concerned your pet is underweight, we are here to help in those instances too.
Obesity can lead to health problems in Pets
Don’t ignore the fact your pet is overweight, as just like humans they can end up suffering from a number of health problems such as;

- Diabetes
- Heart disease
- Kidney disease
- High blood pressure
